The key to an attractive website is to do something outside the standard corporate design. If you don't do anything interesting, you become just another website.

There's also a certain comfort level people like to be within. They're used to sites that serve a certain purpose having a certain type of navigation, and if you go too far outside what they're comfortable with they won't enjoy using your site and are less likely to spend time on it.
